A bound collection of 19th century ephemera, various pamphlets, etc. Included are original 1824 issues 1-5 of The Straggling Astronomer, which was authored by Robert Cross Smith (a.k.a. the original "Raphael") and the Society of the Mercurii. Leftover issues not individually sold were bound into a volume called The Astrologer of the Nineteenth Century, which itself is relatively rare, but these initial original issues not bound in the latter book are extremely scarce, almost never obtainable. Binding is worn, rear board only attached by the endpaper, but the subject issues are in very good condition with minimal aging. An earlier owner wrote an amusing comment inside the front cover: "An unusual collection of Two Penny trash." The value here is entirely based on the original issues of The Straggling Astronomer contained therein.
- Condition: Rear board barely attached, boards worn. Subject issues in VG condition themselves.
